Overview
The historic Rainaskot in Lamjung district is now becoming famous as a tourism destination with the launching of the homestay service . The homestay service at this place with historical and religious importance has been revived with the reconstruction of the houses of the local people that were damaged by the April 25 Gorkha Earthquake in 2015 . The reconstruction was carried out with the special support of an American social worker Natasha Wozniak. Fourteen houses including a community building were reconstructed with Wozniak’s support at Rainaskot . The reconstruction was carried out at a total cost of Rs 35 million of which 27.5 million was provided by Wozniak.
The locals have started providing home stay service to visitors after their houses were rebuilt. Homestay facility is now available at 13 homes in Rainaskot which can accommodate up to 84 guests.
Guests on homestay can enjoy typical Nepali dishes prepared from organic vegetables and food grains grown in the village itself along with chicken of local roosters and mutton. The menu also includes the selroti cooked from millet flour, soup of various beans seeds and pickles of varied taste. Besides, tasting the local organic foods, domestic tourists also can experience the local cultures. The Rainaskot has a big Gurungpopulation, a museum related to that caste also has been established.
You can reach the site after two hours of bus ride and three hours of hike from Paudi, a gateway of Lamjung district. You can enjoy the panoramic view of the Himalayan range including the mountain peaks as Manaslu, Lamjung, Annapurna, Machhapuchchhre and Dhawalagiri from Rainaskot which lies at the head of the village. Brilliant view of the sunrise from Rainaskotand landscape of 16 districts including Kaski, Tanahun, Gorkha, Chitwan, Dhading and Nawalparasi can be seen as well.
